The W3C working group is chartered to deliver the next-generation RDF and SPARQL recommendations. With work well underway developments will be presented directly from group participants.

The Lotico community is looking forward to hosting the presentation on next-generation RDF: first, we'll explore the new reification scheme in RDF 1.2, which introduces triples as a new object type alongside IRIs, blank nodes, and literals. This improvement enhances the reification mechanism—essentially allowing the “linking to links.”

We’ll also discuss how these features will allow for annotating asserted triples, adding “marginalia” for fact provenance and context through “reifiers.” Both Turtle and SPARQL will support this syntax, with JSON-LD 1.2 expected to follow.

Additionally, we'll delve into how reifiers interact with named graphs and review the new optional text direction for language literals. In the RDF 1.2 Semantics draft, triples represent propositions—the fundamental units of meaning in propositional logic.

Speakers:

Niklas Lindström is Co-Chair of the DCMI Usage Board and has a background as a consultant in web and data technologies. Was part of the W3C RDFa 1.1 working group and co-authored JSON-LD 1.0. He now works as a systems developer at the National Library of Sweden, focusing on linked data structures, semantics, protocols, and interoperability. The Usage Board is the maintenance committee for all DCMI vocabularies, notably DCMI Metadata Terms and ISO 15836.

Andy Seaborne is an Open Software champion and VP at Apache Software and represents W3C Relations. Andy is the chair and a contributor to the Apache Jena project a free and open source Java framework for building Semantic Web and Linked Data applications.
